1. Material composition
Gabion is mainly made of low-carbon steel wire or steel wire coated with PVC on the surface with high corrosion resistance, high strength, wear resistance and ductility. These steel wires are mechanically woven into hexagonal meshes shaped like honeycombs, and then form gabion boxes or gabion pads.
2. Specifications
Wire diameter: According to the requirements of engineering design, the diameter of the low-carbon steel wire used in gabion is generally between 2.0-4.0mm.
Tensile strength: The tensile strength of the gabion steel wire is not less than 38kg/m² (or 380N/㎡), ensuring the stability and safety of the structure.
Metal coating weight: In order to enhance the corrosion resistance of the steel wire, the weight of the metal coating is generally higher than 245g/m².
Mesh edge wire diameter: The edge wire diameter of the gabion is generally larger than the mesh wire diameter to increase the strength of the overall structure.
Length of the double-wire twisted part: In order to ensure that the metal coating and PVC coating of the twisted part of the steel wire are not damaged, the length of the double-wire twisted part shall not be less than 50mm.
3. Features
Flexibility and stability: The gabion mesh has a flexible structure that can adapt to the changes of the slope without being damaged, and has better safety and stability than the rigid structure.
Anti-scouring ability: The gabion mesh can withstand a water flow speed of up to 6m/s and has a strong anti-scouring ability.
Permeability: The gabion mesh is inherently permeable, which is conducive to the natural action and filtration of groundwater. The suspended matter and silt in the water can be settled in the stone filling cracks, which is conducive to the growth of natural plants.
Environmental protection: Soil or naturally deposited soil can be thrown on the surface of the gabion mesh box or pad to support plant growth and achieve the dual effects of protection and greening.
4. Uses
Gabion mesh can be widely used in the following fields:
Slope support: In highway, railway and other projects, it is used for slope protection and reinforcement.
Foundation pit support: In construction projects, it is used for temporary or permanent support of foundation pits.
River protection: In rivers, lakes and other waters, it is used for the protection and reinforcement of river banks and dams.
Garden landscape: In garden landscape projects, it is used for landscape construction such as greening of steep slopes and retaining walls.
5. Advantages
Simple construction: The gabion mesh box process only requires the stones to be put into the cage and sealed, without the need for special technology or hydropower equipment.
Low cost: Compared with other protective structures, the cost per square meter of the gabion mesh box is lower.
Good landscape effect: The gabion mesh box process adopts a combination of engineering measures and plant measures, and the landscape is effective quickly and naturally.
Long service life: The gabion mesh box process has a service life of several decades and generally does not require maintenance.
In short, as an efficient, environmentally friendly and economical engineering protection material, gabion mesh has been widely used in many fields
